Children thrive on routines, which is why it is important for preschoolers to have an established, predictable schedule to follow each day. Learning what to expect in the classroom promotes a sense of security while reducing stress and encouraging independence.
Preschoolers, and their parents who choose The Gardner School, enjoy the comfort of following a daily routine that flows smoothly from morning arrival to afternoon departure, all the while meeting their academic and developmental needs.
Morning
Arrivals are warm and welcoming! We are always happy to greet your child when they enter the classroom and allow them to ease into the morning with child-directed play, followed by a morning snack.
Once brains are awake and bodies are nourished, we begin the academic portion of our day with an engaging curriculum. Depending on your child’s age, this will include circle time, whole group instruction, themed small group activities, music and movement, art, learning centers, literacy, and motor skill development.
We also incorporate technology, sight words, and S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Engaging life skills, such as leadership, active listening, and following directions, are carefully woven into each day.
Afternoon
Midday and early afternoon are marked by lunch, rest, and additional opportunities for child-directed play. Children can enjoy a healthy meal with friends, and older students practice serving themselves. Following lunch, our students relax with storytime and prepare for their daily nap.
After naptime, children will engage with puzzles, books, learning centers, child-directed play, music and movement, additional outdoor play, and another circle time to review concepts that were learned earlier in the day.
Families will also have the option of enrolling their preschoolers in a selection of enrichment activities. These may include sports, drama, dance, and more depending on interest, availability, and time of year. Enrichment activities are also incorporated into our school day for preschoolers who participate.
Evening
The Gardner School is open until 6:00 p.m. to offer flexible support for families. Parents can be confident their children are getting plenty of outdoor playtime, nutrition, and love while awaiting their caretaker’s arrival.
