Some moments never leave you. The first classroom smile. The teacher who remembered every favorite toy. The friendships that grew from playdates into lifelong bonds. At The Gardner School, these memories are not just milestones. They are the foundation of a community that has grown with heart and purpose for two full decades.
In November, we gathered at The Gardner School of Nashville, the very first TGS location, to celebrate 20 years of connection, care, and growth. The day was filled with gratitude and reflection, reminding us how much our story has expanded and how the core of who we are has stayed beautifully the same.
Where Children and Families Belong
Families often tell us that TGS feels different the moment they walk in. Teachers greet children by name, directors know families personally, and the small details woven into each classroom create a sense of warmth, consistency, and ease. That feeling of belonging has shaped more than daily school routines. It has made a ripple effect that families carry into kindergarten and beyond.
This year’s celebration highlighted exactly that. Parents shared the ways TGS helped their children build confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning. As one parent said, “We still talk about our child’s teachers at TGS. They set the standard for what real care feels like.”
Celebrating 20 Years Together
Since opening our first school in Nashville in 2005, The Gardner School has educated more than 44,000 children, shaping early learning experiences that prepare students for kindergarten and the years that follow. Today, we operate 43 schools across eight states and the District of Columbia, growing in partnership with families who trust us with their child’s early years.
This milestone year was honored in a special way. In Nashville, Mayor Freddie O’Connell proclaimed November 11, 2025, as The Gardner School Day in recognition of our contributions to children, families, and the workforce over the past 20 years.
During the anniversary celebration, CEO Dean Pappous shared, “The Gardner School was founded on the belief that children thrive when they are truly supported and inspired to discover their abilities. For 20 years, our educators have created learning environments where confidence, curiosity, and character can grow. As we mark this milestone, we remain committed to delivering the high-quality early education families expect from TGS and to expanding that promise to more communities across the country.”
Connections That Grow With Time
One thing has remained steady since day one: relationships come first. Families return to visit former teachers, younger siblings begin their own TGS journeys, and alumni stop by to share how they are growing in new schools, sports, arts, and academic pathways. These familiar faces remind us that what happens inside our classrooms lasts well beyond preschool.
Parents often tell us that friendships formed at TGS continue into grade school and even into family vacations and weekend traditions. It is a community that expands naturally, built on trust and shared care.
Moving Forward
As we celebrate 20 years, we are grateful for every teacher, director, family, and alumnus who helped shape the heart of The Gardner School. What began as one school in Nashville has grown into a network of communities that believe in safe spaces, joyful learning, and the simple power of belonging.
Two decades in, our mission remains the same. We continue to create warm, inspiring environments where children feel known, valued, and encouraged to become all they are meant to be. And we look ahead with excitement for the next chapter of growth, connection, and the everyday moments that matter most.
