Who doesn’t love a day of soaking up the vitamin D while basking in nature? We’re here to help you and your family experience the best that Williamson County has to offer in outdoor activities. To give you some inspiration for your next outing, we asked our TGS families about their favorite kid-friendly outdoor activities in Williamson County. Let’s see what they had to say.
1. Pinkerton Park
Pinkerton Park is the most highly used passive park in the county’s park system — because parents know where their kids love to go! Enjoy looking out at the Harpeth River, romping around the Tinkerbell playground, or having a picnic at one of the park’s many tables. You’ll love the one-mile pedestrian track for long walks with the family, and you’ll have easy access to the downtown area via The Sue Douglas Berry Memorial pedestrian bridge. It’s a great spot for a spontaneous adventure or a planned nature walk with your little one.
2. Franklin Recreation Complex Pools & Splash Park
Wanting to keep little ones cool on a sunny day? Water days are the perfect go-to. Pack a lunch, sunscreen, and plenty of water, and head out to the Franklin Recreation Complex for a great afternoon trip with your preschooler. As the playscape has only a few inches of water, you’ll feel comfortable letting small children explore all the colorful slides, sprays, and fountains. With so much fun to be had, it’s easy to see why the splash park is a family favorite around here!

3. Crockett Park
Crockett Park is more than just a park. It’s home to a playground, mini-amphitheater, puppet show stand, tire swings, picnic tables, and green space. No matter what you’re looking for in your outdoor activity fun, Crockett Park is the place for you.
4. Franklin Farmers Market
We can’t say enough about how educational farmers markets can be for little ones. It’s helpful for them to see where their community’s food comes from and who produces it. Children also have loads of fun picking out the fresh fruits, veggies, breads, and more that your family can use in that night’s dinner. Franklin Farmers Market has tons of vendors waiting to share their goods!
5. Bowie Nature Park
With 17 miles of walking trails, a nature center, and over 700 acres of forest, Bowie Nature Park is a wonderful place to connect with nature. Take a look at the park’s events calendar to be sure you don’t miss out on upcoming children’s events. Offering group hikes and educational programs, park rangers are there to help little ones learn about the wonders of nature.
6. Mistletoe Farms
Has your child gotten used to seeing the typical zoo animals? Try shaking things up at Mistletoe Farms. Your child will adore seeing Mistletoe Farm’s alpacas and all of the beautiful wares made from their wool. You and your family can also get up close and personal with the alpacas — new friends your child will love! Be sure to reserve your date ahead of time, as only a limited number of time slots are available.
7. Soar Adventure Tower
For the daring little one in your family – there is tons of fun to be had at Soar Adventure Tower. Their kid’s climbing course, which is ideal for ages 3 to 8, is a great opportunity for parents to interact and be engaged as their kids explore and gain confidence in their own abilities. For those who prefer not to climb, their 18-hole music-themed mini golf course is perfect for the whole family!
