When you wake up to a day of good weather, it’s the perfect time to pack up the family and head out to play. Luckily, there are plenty of fun locations to take advantage of the lovely weather right in your neighborhood! To inspire your next outing, we asked our TGS families to share their favorite kid-friendly outdoor activities in West Loop.

1. Bartelme Park

West Loop parents have outdoor activities in the area to enjoy with their families, but few are as scenic as Bartelme Park. Featuring a fountain plaza, children’s play area, dog park, viewing hill, and enclosed seating area, this park is versatile enough to go from energetic play to quiet moments without ever leaving the area. We especially enjoy that this park has the backdrop of the Chicago skyline.

2. North Avenue Beach

The little beach lover in your life will have a blast at North Avenue Beach. One of Chicago’s most popular spots, this beach includes an ocean liner-inspired beach house that boasts one of the best views in the city. Then, take a break from playing in the sand to visit one of the many local restaurants and other attractions that North Avenue Beach has to offer!

3. Green City Market

Farmer’s markets are a great way to connect children with the food on their plates. Green City Market features dozens of local, sustainable food producers and programs for children of all ages. It can be an exciting experience to talk to vendors, try some treats, and pick out the fresh produce that you’ll be using for dinners that week. For some added fun, ask your child to pick a few fruits or veggies themselves that they can help you prepare as a meal for the family.

4. Garfield Conservatory

To be surrounded by beautiful plant life, head to the Garfield Conservatory, which is often referred to as “landscape art under glass.” Your family will be immersed in thousands of species of plants from all over the world. Open all year, the Conservatory features eight indoor display gardens, more than ten acres of outdoor gardens, play spaces, and a water lily pond. Check out the website to learn more about the events and programs available!

5. Arrigo Park

This seven-acre community park is recommended by several TGS West Loop parents. Arrigo Park is as picturesque as it is serene. Head here for a picnic, walk, or to admire the flowers in bloom. If you’re looking for the ideal spot for a nature walk with your little one, Arrigo Park may just be the place.
