When rain showers or cold winter days are in the forecast, Ravenswood parents can take time to plan indoor activities for family fun. For ideas about what to do indoors in Chicago, we polled parents at The Gardner School of Ravenswood to find out their favorite kid-friendly indoor activities. They came up with five can’t-miss indoor day destinations that Chicago children will love.

Chicago Children’s Museum at Navy Pier

Chicago families love the towering Cloud Buster exhibit, which features 37 feet of structural steel. Children can climb all the way into the sky and feel like they’re touching the clouds. Other popular exhibits include the Art Studio, where little ones can express their artistic imaginations, and the Dinosaur Exhibition, where mini-archeologists dig up ancient relics. Daily classes and events help your child learn new concepts and practice new skills. Sure, it’s called the Chicago Children’s Museum, but we know a few adults who are pretty fond of it as well.

The Little Gym

Folks at The Little Gym know that physical activity isn’t just about building a strong body; it’s about teamwork, leadership, relationship-building, and developing a focused mind. That’s why their approach to physical education is founded on promoting social, emotional, and intellectual development alongside building strength, flexibility, and balance. From karate and sports prep to dance and gymnastics, classes prioritize positivity and a non-competitive spirit to create a safe and enriching environment for every child!

Museum of Science and Industry

Whether your child is a budding artist or engineer, there’s something to pique every interest at the Museum of Science and Industry. Museum exhibits feature everything from planes, trains, tractors, ships, submarines, and satellites to ancient architecture, Lego art, a mathematical mirror maze, and even a fairy castle. This destination is perfect for any day that your family wants to spend indoors.

Wiggleworms

Children’s music classes at Wiggleworms are legendary in Chicago. Operated by the Old Town School of Folk Music, group classes provide an opportunity for young children to sing, dance, tell song stories, and get hands-on exposure to an array of musical instruments. Infant, toddler, and early school-age years are a critical time for childhood sensory and expressive development, and Wiggleworms classes offer an incredible opportunity for children to explore the language of music and practice their self-expression!
