Emily Davidson
School Director
How long have you been with TGS?
I’ve been with TGS since July of 2017.
Roles Served with TGS:
I first started in July of 2017 as a lead infant teacher. Since then, I have been a toddler teacher and a preschool teacher. I officially became the Assistant Director at TGS Bucktown in March of 2022, and I am excited to now lead as the Executive School Director at TGS Ravenswood!
What is your educational background?
I graduated from the University of St. Francis in 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education.
What made you decide to have a career in education?
Education was always extremely important to me. Having role models at a young age in education made me want to become a teacher.
What makes you laugh about kids?
You just never know what they will say! They are some of the funniest humans that I have ever met.
What do you love most about working with infants through the age of 5?
The amount of development they go through during this time is so crucial and important. Being able to see babies that I had in the infant room graduate preschool has been such an amazing experience.
What is your favorite part of the day at TGS?
My favorite part of the day at TGS is during the evenings when I get to see all of the children tell their parents about their day.
What do you love most about TGS?
I love the relationships that have formed since I started working here. I have kids that will come up to me that remember me from their toddler class or have a picture of them and me in their house. It is such a special bond that I have with these children.
What is your fondest memory of TGS thus far?
My fondest memories of TGS so far have been the holiday and spring concerts. Seeing the excited faces of the students, teachers, and family members is so special!
What inspires you?
I am inspired by children and their outlook on life. They live life to the fullest every day and have such a positive perspective. Seeing these children and their positive attitudes makes me want to live life to the fullest.
What is your passion or passions?
I am passionate about the arts, books, and sports. I love going to see musicals, plays, and sporting events. Go Cubs!
What does the term “Where Learning Begins” mean to you?
Learning will be something that these children do for the rest of their lives. We see the beginning stages of who they will become. That is such a special opportunity. We get to see them develop socially, physically, emotionally, and cognitively. There aren’t many jobs like that.
How important is early childhood education?
Early childhood education is extremely important. Children need that foundation of education to know that they are ready for their next stage.
What would you tell new parents who are apprehensive about leaving their infant in the care of someone else for the first time?
I always try to remind them that it is okay to be apprehensive! Dropping your new baby into a new school can be hard. We work together to ensure the best communication so that the transition from home to school is as seamless as it can be.

Assistant Director
What is your educational background, and what inspired you to pursue a career in early childhood education?
I hold a master’s degree in Pedagogy and Management from Chelyabinsk State Pedagogical University in Russia, as well as an associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Penn Foster College. Working with children has always been my dream, and that passion led me to focus on teaching methods and learning activities designed for young learners. I’ve always believed in the power of early education to shape a child’s future, and I’m grateful to have turned that dream into a career.
How long have you been with TGS, and what excites you most about being part of this school community?
I joined TGS in June 2025 as the Assistant Director. What excites me most is the strong sense of community — the support among teachers, the shared commitment to nurturing each child’s potential, and the creativity and curiosity that fills the school every day. It’s a place where both children and educators are encouraged to grow.
What do you love most about working with children during their early years of development?
I love witnessing the incredible growth that happens during these early years. Whether it’s a baby’s first steps, a toddler’s first words, or a preschooler making a new discovery, being part of those milestones is such a privilege. Their joy, honesty, and eagerness to learn are endlessly inspiring.
What is the most rewarding part of your day at TGS?
My favorite part of the day is walking through the school in the morning and seeing children come together for group learning and creative activities. Whether it’s music, storytelling, or art, these moments of connection and expression are incredibly rewarding.
Share the name of a teacher who inspired you and describe how they influenced your approach to education.
Two educators who deeply inspire me are Maria Montessori and Howard Gardner. Maria Montessori’s emphasis on independence, hands-on learning, and respecting each child’s natural development has greatly influenced the way I approach early childhood education. Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences shaped my understanding that every child learns differently. His work reminds me to recognize and nurture each child’s unique strengths — whether in language, music, movement, or social interaction. Together, their philosophies guide me to create inclusive, child-centered experiences that honor each learner’s individuality.
Why do you believe quality early childhood education is important for a child’s development?
I believe quality early childhood education lays the foundation for a child’s lifelong learning. It supports their cognitive, emotional, and social development during the most critical years of their life. A nurturing and engaging environment helps children build confidence, curiosity, and the skills they need to thrive.
How would you comfort and reassure new parents who may feel nervous about leaving their child in someone else’s care for the first time?
I would reassure new parents by letting them know that we understand how emotional that first separation can be. I’d emphasize our strong communication with families, our nurturing environment, and our dedication to each child’s well-being. Building trust through daily updates and open conversations helps parents feel confident that their child is safe, happy, and thriving.
How do you partner with parents to support their child’s growth and learning journey?
I believe in open and ongoing communication with families. Partnering with parents means sharing observations, celebrating milestones together, and collaborating on strategies to support their child’s development. We work as a team to ensure each child feels understood, supported, and empowered.
