Earlier this fall, our hearts were broken for families and schools impacted by the aftermath and devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Knowing that schools at all levels help provide stability, safety, meals, and important routines for children, The Gardner School jumped at the opportunity to help in the recovery efforts by adopting a Texas classroom.
As several Texas schools were damaged, classrooms were impacted by the loss of vital teaching materials. With the goal of helping these classrooms recover as quickly as possible, The Gardner School corporate office asked our schools’ families and staff to contribute dollars toward helping fulfill the classroom’s needs and pledged to match donations up to $2,500.
Working directly with the staff at Houston-based Texas Teachers, The Gardner School was matched with its adopted Kindergarten classroom teacher at Houston’s Judson Robinson Elementary. Because of the sincere generosity of The Gardner School’s families, we adopted not only this kindergarten classroom but also two Pre-K classrooms!
The contributions given, totaling $3,725 plus the $2,500 corporate gift from The Gardner School, helped rebuild a wonderful learning environment for these children, most of which live in nearby houses and apartments that were also damaged from hurricane flooding. Among the items sent to our adopted classrooms were puzzles, writing utensils, books, educational posters, learning charts, headphones, home living toys, number and letter magnets, staplers, projectors, hole punchers, paper, storage bins, markers, craft supplies, and so much more.
