Preschoolers thrive on routines, which is why we prioritize established, predictable daily schedules for all of our students at The Gardner School. This sense of consistency not only promotes security and reduces stress but also fosters independence and a love for learning. Each day at The Gardner School is thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of our students from the moment they arrive until they head home, all in our state-of-the-art facilities that are conveniently located in the Boston area.

Morning:

As your child steps into The Gardner School, they are greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by our dedicated educators. The day begins with child-directed play, allowing children to ease into their day. Once everyone has been dropped off, we dive into our engaging, research-based curriculum. Depending on your child’s age, their morning may include circle time, group instruction, themed activities, music and movement, outdoor play, and learning centers. Our classroom learning centers are a great example of structured play, as students get to choose from a variety of stations, including home living, block center, puzzles, cutting with safety scissors, reading, and more.

We value S.T.E.A.M. education at TGS, and you’ll find science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities infused into the curriculum and daily classroom activities. Children learn best by doing, and our S.T.E.A.M. labs provide the perfect environment for daily hands-on, experiential learning, allowing our students to develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Afternoon:

Midday at The Gardner School is a time for both rest and exploration. After enjoying a nutritious lunch, children relax with a story before settling in for their daily nap. Post-nap, our students engage in activities that further develop their motor skills, creativity, and social interactions. To review concepts learned earlier in the day, a second circle time is always part of afternoon activities, as well as additional outdoor play.

Families also have the option of enrolling their preschoolers in a selection of enrichment activities. These may include sports, drama, yoga, or dance, depending on interest, availability, and time of year. Enrichment activities are incorporated into the school day for preschoolers who participate.

Throughout the day, students have additional opportunities to venture outside the classroom and move throughout the school. Older children enjoy snack time and lunches served in our Kids Café, and students who participate in enrichment classes do so in our multi-purpose enrichment rooms and computer lab. Changing the environment throughout the day gives our students the opportunity to explore and interact with different students and staff members.

Winding Down The Day

Late afternoons at The Gardner School are designed to gently transition children from a day full of learning to a relaxed and enjoyable evening. As the day winds down, our students continue to enjoy outdoor play, healthy snacks, and the care and attention of our committed staff. You can rest assured knowing your child is in a safe, loving environment from drop off to pick up.
