When the weather just isn’t cooperating, Chicago families love having family-friendly activities to do indoors. Luckily, the Lincoln Park area is full of exciting things to do! The fun doesn’t have to stop when there are plenty of museums, science centers, aquariums, and so much more to explore. We asked our TGS parents about their favorite kid-friendly indoor activities in Lincoln Park, and here are a few that are at the top of their lists!
1. Museum of Science and Industry
The Museum of Science and Industry is described as “hands-on” and “mind-blowing.” Your child will love the state-of-the-art exhibits, including tornados and Tesla coils. The Giant Dome Theater will immerse your family in a world of learning, transporting you to faraway places, such as Antarctica—or even another galaxy! Take a look at the museum’s event calendar to plan your family’s next adventure.

2. Kids Science Labs
Kids Science Labs (KSL) was designed by two engineer fathers who saw the need to engage children in S.T.E.A.M. concepts early. KSL programs combine inspiring learning environments and passionate teachers to provide hands-on science and engineering lessons that are fun and accessible. From classes to camps to birthday parties, KSL has something for everyone.
3. Shedd Aquarium
Ready to look nature in the eye? The Shedd Aquarium’s focus is care and conservation, and that means educating the public about the wild and complex world that lives under the water. With in-person encounters and 4-D experiences, your child will feel like they’re part of these habitats, getting a hands-on feel for how these animals live.
4. Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
Is your child developing a love of nature? The Nature Museum features engaging exhibits and programs for children that connect little ones with the world. A few favorites are Critter Connection, animal feeding, butterfly releases, and nature-inspired playscapes. Bonus for parents: the butterfly enclosure is also a venue for yoga classes! This is the perfect place to connect with the outdoors while inside—no matter the weather. Check out the museum’s schedule of events for your next family outing!
5. FOSS Swim School
Water safety is vital for little ones of all ages. Be sure that your water bug is ready to play safely in the pool with swimming lessons at FOSS Swim School. With the school’s Swim Path® program, instructors teach developmentally appropriate swimming skills based on children’s individual needs and milestones rather than age. FOSS features quarterly classes and summer camps to fit any family’s schedule.
