If you’re looking for entertainment that takes place inside, the parents at The Gardner School of Lincolnshire have more than a few ideas! Here are their best bets for indoor activities for families with young children.

Marriott Theater

The Theatre for Young Audiences shows at The Marriott Theater are the perfect afternoon entertainment for wiggly children. Kids will be captivated by plays and musicals that are catered to their interests—and their attention spans. Many of the sixty-minute productions feature a Q & A with the cast after the show, so your aspiring actor or actress can ask burning questions about life on the stage. Be prepared! Your kids will be humming songs and putting on living room performances for weeks afterwards.

Raupp Museum

Get to know Buffalo Grove as it used to be! This three-acre farm with a rebuilt farmhouse helps kids understand what life was like for Illinois residents in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Kids can milk a model cow, and try out a rotary telephone and a typewriter. The museum offers free admission to all, and it’s a wonderful way to wile away a long, rainy afternoon.

Kohl Children’s Museum

Early childhood educators know the importance of engaging, interactive play that encourages curiosity, and Kohl Children’s Museum is here to offer just that! Learning meets fun as children take on engineering tasks in a room full of giant building blocks, explore the scientific properties of H2O at a waterworks exhibit, sculpt a masterpiece at the Adventures in Art corner, and more! In addition to their permanent exhibits, special art, science, and reading programs are included with museum admission.

Bowlero

With a full arcade, laser tag, pool tables, and unbeatable retro decor, it’s no wonder Bowlero bowling alley is a local favorite. With a full menu and plenty of alternate play options for school-age children, this spot is a one-stop shop for a fun day out with the whole family. Bowlero also offers tailored party packages for little ones, teens, and all-ages social events, so keep this spot in mind when planning your next family event or child’s birthday party.

Ball Factory

There’s no substitute for the open-ended play that children experience on park playgrounds, but Ball Factory has just what your little one needs in an indoor space. From slides, climbing areas, and ball pits to areas for building with mega blocks, driving tractors, and a gated play zone for crawlers, there are plenty of diverse and engaging ways to go wild at the Ball Factory. When kids are ready for a break, check out their $5 children’s menu to recharge and get back to the fun!

Dunn Museum

The Dunn Museum is not your average museum with items sourced from around the world. Instead, their collection of over 20,000 local artifacts traces the history of Lake County from prehistoric times to the present. See large-scale dinosaur fossils, learn about Native American culture and tradition, and explore Civil War history. The Dunn Museum’s fun and educational exhibits are bound to spark good conversation and pique children’s curiosity.
