It’s always a great idea to have plenty of indoor activity options in your back pocket for when you and the family want to get out and play! Whether the weather isn’t cooperating, or you just want to be where the air conditioning (or heating) is, we can help. We asked parents to share their favorite kid-friendly indoor activities in Glenview-Northbrook. Here’s what they had to say!
1. Kohl Children’s Museum
Kohl Children’s Museum is known as “the place where awesome lives,” and it’s an overwhelmingly popular family favorite! The permanent and rotating exhibits allow children to explore their imagination, do hands-on activities, and so much more. For children of any age, the museum offers an extensive programming list, a calendar of events, and the delicious Bean Sprouts Cafe!
2. Funtopia Glenview
Funtopia brings together movement and fun for an exciting indoor activity that’s a hit any day of the week. Little ones can fly, slide, and jump all over the place, and parents are huge fans of the programs and events that combine fitness, knowledge, and play! Offering a wide range of activities and food, Funtopia is a wonderful place to have a birthday party. And, if this spot becomes a family favorite, you can get several discounts with a membership!
3. Museum of Science and Industry
For a day of indoor exploration, the Museum of Science and Industry is a great choice. This family outing will surely be one for the books, especially when you choose one of the many intriguing exhibits the museum has to offer. Learn about everything from wetlands and submarines to dogs and mirrors. Be sure to stop by one of the many shops and restaurants for a treat!

4. Northbrook Play
How about a day of shopping and play? Northbrook Court features a free indoor playground designed by the Chicago Children’s Museum. Among the favorite activities are a toddler sensory area, a costume dress-up area, climbing spots, and a family selfie station. You can even book a class with Noggin Builders for kids ages two and up to explore real-world S.T.E.A.M. projects.
5. Nickel City Games
Nothing says fun like arcade games. Remember the excitement of watching tickets dispense from the arcade game you mastered? It’s time to bring that feeling back! Take the family to Nickel City for classic video games, prizes, and a snack bar. With games for children of all ages with many snacks and prizes to choose from, Nickel City is also a great spot for private birthday parties!
