There is a lot to take into consideration when planning a day out of the house with young children. There are nap times, energy levels, and snacks and meals to consider. If you have children of different ages, finding activities for everyone to enjoy can be a challenge.

As we partner with parents, TGS wants to help take some of the legwork out of the planning process to make it easier for you to continue your child’s educational journey (and have a lot of fun in the process)! We’ve crafted this curated itinerary for a delightful day in Franklin with a few different options for different times of the day, so you can tailor the itinerary to suit your family’s preferences and pace.

Morning (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.)

For children in preschool at The Gardner School, our teachers begin the academic portion of the day with an engaging curriculum. This can include circle time, themed group activities, music and movement, art, learning centers, literacy, and more! Morning is usually the best time for activities that require more calm and focused behavior, so we’ve chosen activities that match morning energy levels.

  • Williamson County Public Library – Main Library
Settle in for family story time at Williamson County’s Main Library location in Franklin. Your preschooler can develop their reading skills through books, music, and fun activities. This branch offers preschool storytime for families to gather and hear stories, songs, and rhymes. Every Tuesday, the library sets a special time just for toddlers to enjoy! Search “children’s department” on the library’s website for details.

Lunch Time (11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)

Filling hungry little tummies is definitely key to a successful day out! Luckily, Franklin has a ton of delicious restaurants to choose from.

  • The Factory At Franklin
There truly is something for everyone inside The Factory At Franklin. Where else can you find Creole soul food, ramen, authentic tacos, famous fried chicken, and BBQ under one roof? The former stove manufacturing plant has recently undergone some major renovations which include an upgraded roster of restaurants and shops. If you’re up for an after-lunch treat, check out one of our favorite spots inside The Factory:

Afternoon (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.)

Your child will likely be energized following lunch (or an afternoon nap), so head to one or all of these attractions where your family can exercise their creativity or enjoy active outdoor time.

  • Third Coast Clay
The Factory isn’t just a great lunch spot—it also offers some unique experiences for families. Your child can channel their inner artist by painting pottery at Third Coast Clay. It’s fun and affordable, at only $8 per painter plus the cost of pottery. There are always new shops opening inside The Factory, and we’re awaiting the unveiling of a carousel that’s slated to open soon! Be sure to keep an eye out during your next visit for new sights to explore.
  • Pinkerton Park
Many families with young children in Franklin consider Pinkerton Park the best park in town, and it’s easy to see why. Your kids will make a beeline to Tinkerbell playground to explore the slides, tunnels, tire mazes, and even a sand pit!  The park is surrounded by a one-mile paved trail that encircles picnic tables and other playground equipment.

(TGS Tip: Check out Pinkerton Park’s summer family movie night series and additional family-friendly events at parks across Franklin!)
