The National Association for the Education of Young Children has designated the first week of April as the Week of the Young Child to honor and recognize the work of early childhood educators and the unique developmental stage they support. The Gardner School also celebrates this special week by offering a small glimpse of all the amazing activities The Gardner School students will enjoy at Camp Gardner 2023. Here is what TGS students experienced during this special week!

Music Monday

What’s that sound coming from the TGS classrooms? It’s Music Monday during the Week of the Young Child! That means our students made beautiful music on classroom instruments they constructed themselves. They also sang songs together, danced to some catchy tunes, and even learned a little bit about the science of music. That’s right! Some schools feature a S.T.E.A.M.-focused activity that showed how guitar strings vibrate to make music. That sure sounds great to us!

Tasty Tuesday

Tuesday’s activities are all about tasty treats! Our students made their own popsicles and created a rainbow of food out of colorful fruits and vegetables. As they enjoyed their delicious snacks, they learned all about how fresh food makes them healthy and strong!

Work Together Wednesday

There was a focus on teamwork in the middle of last week as our students celebrated Work Together Wednesday. What did that look like? Some schools had students work together to create a model boat that would float in the water or their very own lava lamp using vegetable oil. Other locations celebrated Earth Day by learning about conservation, recycling, and reusing items to keep our planet healthy.

Artsy Thursday

On Artsy Thursday, our petite Picassos created marvelous works of art that got their creative juices flowing. Some students learned about color theory by drawing with colored chalk on black construction paper or creating tape-resist art that explored the use of negative space. Whatever creative activity they did, you can be sure our teachers were rooting them on and encouraging them to follow their instincts and play with color!

Family Friday

Family Friday put the focus on our students’ nearest and dearest family members. Our students’ families are such an important motivator for them, and they loved being able to share all they learned during the week with their favorite people. We love our TGS families!

TGS Celebrates Young Children Every Week of the Year

The Gardner School recognizes the important work of educators who encourage and teach young children. Our talented teachers provide a strong foundation for our students’ future academic confidence and success.
