The Gardner School is opening in Braintree, Massachusetts this winter! As we prepare to join the Braintree community, we have scoped out a few of our favorite local fall activities. Below, you’ll find a list of family-friendly fall activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, community engagement, and intellectual growth—much like our own approach to early childhood education!
Braintree Highlands Community Playground, Braintree
Enjoy the crisp fall air with outdoor play at the Braintree Highlands Community Playground. Dubbed “the largest toddler-friendly playground,” local parents say it has play features that are safe and appropriate for children of all ages. Sensory-seekers will especially enjoy the slides and swings. There are also adaptive swings for children with special needs.
The Big Apple Farm, Wrentham
Let them get their favorite fruit right from the source at The Big Apple Farm. Located about 30 miles outside Braintree, the farm offers pick-your-own apples through September and pumpkins in October. Scenic wagon rides are a great way for children to see life on the farm. Be sure to visit their on-site store where your child can choose new produce for your family to try.
Thayer Public Library, Braintree
Fall in love with reading at Thayer Public Library. The library offers a robust selection of events, materials, and services designed specifically for children. Reading has many benefits for young minds, so we love the library’s regularly scheduled evening storytime. This one is best for ages 2 ½ – 4, although children of all ages are welcome, making it easy to accommodate families with younger or older siblings, too.
Children’s Museum Easton, Easton
Encourage your child’s inner scientist, artist, or engineer with time well spent at the Children’s Museum Easton. Their creative exhibits foster hands-on play and include a space station, S.T.E.A.M. lab, maker space, dino den, a sunken ship, a quiet twilight room, an interactive playground with BEAM technology, and a child-sized town where visitors can build in the construction zone, take care of newborn babies or pets at the clinic, or stop by the food truck.
Jam Time, Norwood
Fall in Massachusetts can have its share of rainy days—which can be the perfect time to head to Jam Time for drop-in play. Wooden towers and large foam blocks for climbing, seat spinners, and a bounce house encourage hours of inventive exploration. Named the number one indoor playspace in Massachusetts by multiple sources, this indoor play and enrichment center is also a certified Autism Welcoming business and hosts an hour of play each month with a sensory-sensitive environment.

Plaster Fun Time, Braintree
With fall in the air, the holidays are just around the corner. Get a head start on this year’s gifts—and help your child develop those fine motor skills—with a D.I.Y. experience at Plaster Fun Time. Children can choose to paint simple decorations, their favorite superhero or cartoon character, or even an ornate wall hanging. Walk-ins are always welcome!
