If you’re looking for indoor activities for children in Louisville, we’ve got some great ideas. We asked parents at The Gardner School of Louisville to share some of their favorite indoor activities for families. They responded with a list of great ideas for keeping your child entertained when the weather outside isn’t ideal. Check them out to build the perfect itinerary for a day of indoor activities in Louisville!

Louisville Mega Cavern

If you need protection from the elements, but you still want to be in nature, the Mega Cavern features unparalleled natural beauty underground. Walk or take a tram as you tour the mysterious subterranean world. Children can learn about cave formation and ecology as you take a break from the heat of the sun. Adults and children over six can even take a zipline tour to see this huge cave at high speeds while zooming through the air.

Kentucky Science Center

If rain is in the forecast, head to the Kentucky Science Center, which is open seven days a week from 9:30 am to 5 pm. If you can, call ahead or snag tickets in advance, since this popular Louisville attraction often sells out. Introduce your child to S.T.E.A.M. learning through engaging science-based activities and exhibits. Make sure to check out the full event calendar for fun family activities like feature film showings and hands-on workshops in the Makerplace.

Malibu Jacks

Carnival-level thrills don’t need to be limited to summer days or special occasions. At Malibu Jacks indoor theme park, visitors can enjoy swinging boat rides, twisting coasters, go-karts, mini-golf, and much more all year round, rain or shine! Young children especially love Bounce Beach, an expansive playground that encourages imaginative recreation and includes a dedicated play area for toddlers and infants.

All About Kids

The folks at All About Kids know that sports have the potential to promote childhood motor development and help children build relationships, self-confidence, and a strong foundation for lifelong healthy habits. Whether your child is enrolled in gymnastics, swimming, or basketball lessons, instructors will instill principles of self-worth, respect, and safety, all while encouraging little ones to have a great time!

Main Event Louisville

Children who love active fun are crazy about Main Event Louisville, where they can try a climbing wall, sing their hearts out in karaoke, roll a ball down the bowling alley, or try out a whole suite of arcade games. Plus, it’s right next to the Xscape Theatre. Is there a better indoor afternoon than a few hours of fun followed by a great movie? We think not!

Altitude Trampoline Park

If the weather outside isn’t comfortable for outdoor play, this is an excellent option for indoor fun. Altitude goes beyond the offerings of a simple bounce house. There’s a Ninja Course with foam blocks that are a blast to dive into and a Recreation Wall where your child can start to practice their climbing skills. Extreme Dodgeball takes a favorite game to the next level when children can bounce and twist out of the way of incoming missiles. If you’re looking to host a party, it’s a great place to take an energetic group who need a place to run.

Louisville Free Public Library

The 19 branches of the LFPL hold storytimes in the morning and afternoon nearly every day of the week. With careful planning, you can “story hop,” visiting several sessions over the course of the day for the ultimate in literary achievement. The children’s librarians are great at advising you on what you and your child should read next. It’s a great way to teach your child this timeless truth: there’s nothing better than curling up in a cozy spot with a good book on a rainy day.
