Beautiful days are just begging for you and your family to get outside in the sunshine. Thanks to Bucktown’s wide array of outdoor activities, you and your child can enjoy a little vitamin D and all the smiles and laughs you can handle. If you’re ready to get out there and see what your neighborhood has to offer, we’re here to offer a little inspiration. We asked our TGS parents about their favorite kid-friendly outdoor activities in Bucktown, Chicago. There were a few outdoor activities in Bucktown at the very top of their lists.

1. Dean Park (Playground + Splash Pad)

Ready to head out with the family on a warm day? Dean Park features a playground with an interactive water feature that little ones love to run through. As a bonus, this park also has a community garden and a multi-purpose field, making it the perfect location for learning and play.

2. Walsh Park

Parks are such a popular family destination because they are extremely versatile. From sports to playgrounds, to walks, to lying on a blanket in the sun, parks allow you to do it all. Walsh Park is no exception. Featuring an athletic field, basketball hoops, a playground, and a dog-friendly area, this park is a favorite for everyone in the family, even your furry pals.

3. The 606

The second-longest park in the world, The 606 is a 2.7-mile elevated linear park that was once a rail line. This space is ideal for biking, running, walking, and events. With plenty of open green space, you will find that The 606 can be a venue for any family fun day.

4. Wicker Park Farmers Market

Farmers Markets are a wonderful place to teach little ones about where their food comes from and who is behind the scenes. Head to the market in Wicker Park to spend time visiting vendors. You will also find that the market offers storytime, yoga, and meditation!

5. North Avenue Beach

The little beach lover in your life will have a blast at North Avenue Beach. One of Chicago’s most popular spots, this beach includes an ocean liner-inspired beach house that boasts one of the best views in the city. Then, take a break from playing in the sand to visit one of the many local restaurants and other attractions that North Avenue Beach has to offer!

6. Lincoln Park Zoo

What better way to teach your child about the power of nature than to immerse them in it? The Lincoln Park Zoo will transport them all over the world, showing them how animals from near and far live and adapt to their environments. The zoo features children’s programs, manicured gardens, and, of course, plenty of different animal species. For a day of learning and fun, it doesn’t get much better than Lincoln Park Zoo.
