Organic Louisville

We all know how hard it is to find real food in Louisville when you’re on the go with your family or even by yourself. Thankfully, there are some great options that do exist if you’re searching for organic! Below is a list of the top ten establishments (in no particular order) where you can order or pick up items to go while out and about!

Earth Fare
Earth Fare may be a supermarket, but they are also amazing at supplying an all-organic buffet and salad bar for take-out. It’s a great spot if you need to pick up a few items for dinner in addition to lunch on the go.

Half-Peach Bakery and Café
This vegan bakery claims to be the first vegan restaurant in the city making breads, sweets, and lunches, and, we believe them. Their meals offer fresh, local produce free of animal products. Half-Peach even offers gluten-free meals to those who have to watch their gluten intake.

Heine Brothers Coffee
This coffee shop promotes 100% fair trade and organic coffee. They have 13 shops and a mobile Airstream espresso bar across Louisville, so it’s easy access for anybody roaming around to grab a cup of joe (though they don’t offer snacks). Heine Brothers Coffee features a responsible and sustainable business, which takes part in many philanthropic initiatives, recycles, buys cooperatively and buys locally. If you need a pick-me-up during your afternoon slump, try Heine Brothers.

Jason’s Deli
If you didn’t already know, 1/5 of Jason’s ingredients are organic! This include many of their menu items like their blue-corn tortilla chips, whole-wheat wraps, field greens, and spinach. If you’re trying to watch what you’re consuming, order the portion-control option that reduces the size of some items (and saves money). Order your sandwich on an organic whole-wheat wrap, and say hello to health!

LIFEBar began when the owner saw a deficiency of healthy foods in the community. Organic is high priority in their produce and you can see that in the low calorie, high-density nutrition menu items. They offer organic and vegetarian products including smoothies, tonics, juices, superfood, and other healthy choices. Their team is incredibly knowledgeable in their product, as well as nutrition in general, so ask them anything while you’re there!

Lucky’s Market
Purchase foods that are free of pesticides, antibiotics, and growth hormones here at Lucky’s. Their natural and organic food comes from the locals and at a fair price too. It’s always nice on your wallet when you are purchasing real food for your family, while also supporting the community.

Noodles and Company
Noodles and Company is great way to appease your various taste bud preferences. You can choose from an Asian, Mediterranean, or American style with options of hormone and antibiotic-free chicken, beef, shrimp, and organic tofu. They’ve even removed all artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives from its soups, sauces, and dressings! If you don’t like their noodles, which are free from bioengineered ingredients, you can substitute fresh spinach in some of their dishes. You can order a small or bigger portion from all over Chicago, or from one of their 400+ establishments across the nation.

Rainbow Blossom Natural Markets
There have been few unsatisfied customers and consumers that shop at Rainbow Blossom. They strive to fulfill each person’s needs and are happy to accommodate any special orders. Their food is free of synthetic preservatives and artificial colors or flavors.

Trader Joe’s
Starting out as a small chain of convenience stores, they were able to grow bigger because they value the same thing as others — healthy items at a good cost. As much as possible, they bargain directly with their suppliers. Even though this Hawaiian-themed store is a chain, they offer some organic food, with vegetarian and vegan foods, natural hygiene products, household cleaners, and more. Stop in to get something to hold you over or a full meal, while picking up real food for your pet, too!

Whole Foods
It’s hard not to add Whole Foods to the list of healthy, organic establishments. Whole Foods offers a full deli, vitamins, the freshest of veggies and fruits, natural body care products, groceries, and more. It’s trying to get away from the “whole paycheck” accolade it’s been deemed and have lowered the prices of many items, which is great for the health-conscious consumer. Their buffet of offerings is delectable. If you’re on the go, they have compostable to-go boxes. Even if you only have ten minutes to spare, take a seat and enjoy your lunch or dinner in their Whole Market.
