Washington, DC Holiday Family Photos

Not only is holiday shopping on your list, but taking a holiday or New Year’s family photo is also a likely priority. Whether you send out a digital photo or a physical copy through the mail, make sure you snap the perfect picture with a great backdrop! Taking a picture in front of a known landmark or a beautiful landscape can definitely add a special touch to your cards. Here are a handful of special places to take a family photo in DC.

The United States National Arboretum

With beautiful gardens and trees always in bloom, the United States National Arboretum is a remarkable place to have as the backdrop for your holiday family photos. Currently in bloom are dogwoods, camellias, and chrysanthemums, Hollies, Japanese apricots, and Heavenly-bamboo are scheduled to bloom in December.

National Harbor

The National Harbor presents many fun locations to have your family’s holiday picture taken. Whether at their massive 60-foot Christmas tree, shopping in the holiday market, or taking your family to one of their holiday movie parties, there aren’t any shortages of great spots to snap some family pictures for the holidays.

White House

Imagine how great it would be to have your family portraits taken in front of the National Christmas Tree of America. Well, you can at the White House! Open to the public throughout the month of December, the National Christmas Tree of America is decorated with one-of-a-kind ornaments that represent every U.S. state, territory, and DC. It may seem like a typical idea, but the atmosphere around the White House during the holidays is magical.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon

Christmas at George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate begins on November 25 and is a wonderful little spot to shoot family photos. While you’re there, be sure to say hello to the resident camel, Aladdin, create homemade ornaments, and tour the mansion while learning about 18th-century food, dining, and the Washington family’s famous hospitality.

Meridian Hill Park

At the heart of the city, Meridian Hill Park provides a great location for a family holiday photo shoot. Home to the largest cascading fountain in North America and modeled after an Italian aristocrat’s private residence, Meridian Hill Park adds a little European flare to your holiday card. Be careful, though, you may have a stray yogi or an epic drum circle in the background of your photos.
