The holiday season is in now full swing, which means that masters of interior and exterior illumination have already been hard at work decking the halls and stringing up lights on any available surface — all roofs, trees, windows, and shrubs must be covered! Here are some great local places to take in spectacular lights and participate in festively fun activities with your little ones.

Holiday Lights at Columbus Commons: Over 200,000 lights with penguins and snowmen lining the Scioto Mile Promenade to Bicentennial Park. Through Jan 1.

Christmas Lightings at Historic Roscoe Village: An old-fashioned candlelit Christmas tree lighting at night. Daytime activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, mulled cider, cookies, and Santa visits. Learn about Christmas traditions in the 19th century. December 5, 12, and 19.

 Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium: Millions of LED lights, holiday music, train rides, and other family friendly activities. Through Jan 3.
