Columbus Organic Hot Spots

|

We all know how hard it is to find real food in Columbus when you’re on the go with your family or even by yourself. Thankfully, there are some great options that do exist if you’re searching for organic! Below is a list of the top ten establishments (in no particular order) where you can order or pick up items to go while out and about!

Acre Farm to Table
Created to teach families and kids about real food, Acre partners with local growers and artisans that want to share the same knowledge. Call to pick up or order and take out these delicious menu items whenever hunger strikes. Acre offers organic grains, free-range meats, fresh produce, and made-from-scratch sauces.

Earth Fare
Earth Fare may be a supermarket, but they are also great at supplying an all-organic buffet and salad bar for take-out. It’s a great spot if you need to pick up a few items for dinner in addition to lunch on the go.

Jason’s Deli
If you didn’t already know, 1/5 of Jason’s ingredients are organic! This include many of their menu items like their blue-corn tortilla chips, whole-wheat wraps, field greens, and spinach. If you’re trying to watch what you’re consuming, order the portion-control option that reduces the size of some items (and saves money). Order your sandwich on an organic whole-wheat wrap, and say hello to health!

Market 65
This downtown market commits to bringing customers locally-sourced, fresh products for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You might have to wait a little longer for these meals, but it’s worth it for their hormone-free and free-range chicken! So multitask and answer those emails on your phone while you wait in line salivating over a salad or sandwich!

Panera Bread
Panera Bread is just doing healthy the right way. Though “bread” gives its negative connotations to the gluten-free or calorie-conscious consumer, Panera Bread offers a huge variety of choices that are good for you during any meal. Most of their chicken is antibiotic and hormone-free, which we all know is a rarity for large chains, and “organic” doesn’t stop with adults. Kids can order organic yogurt, all-natural peanut butter and jelly, or grilled organic cheese on white whole-grain bread. It’s a win-win for any family.

Portia’s Café
Portia’s preaches positive change by providing healthy options for any lifestyle and impacting the environment, animals and humankind in a positive way. You can easily tell they practice this by 95% of their ingredients coming from organic growers, and using local producers whenever possible to benefit the community. They do make sure 100% of their ingredients are GMO-free, gluten-free, and contain no animal products. Portia’s is the place to be for clean food.

Trader Joe’s
Starting out as a small chain of convenience stores, they were able to grow bigger because they value the same thing as others — healthy items at a good cost. As much as possible, they bargain directly with their suppliers. Even though this Hawaiian-themed store is a chain, they offer some organic food, with vegetarian and vegan foods, natural hygiene products, household cleaners, and more. Stop in to get something to hold you over or a full meal, while picking up real food for your pet, too!

PurePressed Organic Juicery
It’s super convenient to stop by PurePressed and grab a juice made with only raw, healthy, and organic ingredients if you need a little snack in-between meals. They provide nutritional information on everything, and they can point you in the right direction if you’re trying to find something specific.

Whole Foods
It’s hard not to add Whole Foods to the list of healthy, organic establishments. Whole Foods offers a full deli, vitamins, the freshest of veggies and fruits, natural body care products, groceries, and more. It’s trying to get away from the “whole paycheck” accolade it’s been deemed and have lowered the prices of many items, which is great for the health-conscious consumer. Their buffet of offerings is delectable. If you’re on the go, they have compostable to-go boxes. Even if you only have ten minutes to spare, take a seat and enjoy your lunch or dinner in their Whole Market.

zpizza
We know you wouldn’t exactly think “pizza” when trying to order organic food, but sometimes your kids might scream for a pizza, and zpizza will help quiet them down. Starting with their non-GMO wheat flour, their dough is prepared daily. Then you add your toppings like USDA-certified tomato sauce, MSG-free pepperoni, additive-free sausage, and fresh produce.
