Monday was our country’s Independence Day! As our nation celebrated, Camp Gardner kids celebrated, too! The week of July 4th, our children at each school joined in on “Patriotic Railway,” a week devoted to our Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead program — representing science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
Throughout the past two weeks, our campers in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois and Washington, D.C. enjoyed many activities perfect for a red, white, and blue celebration. Here’s a snapshot of all we learned:
We created fireworks in a jar. You can do this at home with your family, too! All you need is water, oil and the food coloring that you want. Check out these easy directions here.
Some of our schools learned about the American flag and made their own flags for their classrooms.
We, of course, weren’t without patriotic snacks. Here are some firecracker red, white and blue snowcones our kids licked up before melting!
We learned a few military terms from military members and how they help our country. We even had a few veteran visits to help our kids learn about the past! The military aren’t the only ones keeping us safe. Our schools also had visits from policemen and firemen to teach our children about community safety.
We couldn’t wrap the week up without showing our gratitude to troops overseas. Our preschoolers took part in writing letters to them and sending care packages.
It was a red, white and blue-packed week for all of our campers — infants through PreK. As a nation, we are so lucky that back in 1776, our country’s courageous founders declared independence. Our campers enjoyed Patriotic Railway and learning about our country in conjuction with our STEAM fun, educational program!
