Bullying: Teaching Right From Wrong

|

Bullying is a very real issue, and, in today’s society, no one is too young or old to be a bully or become a victim - even in day care.

You can protect your child at all ages by teaching them right from wrong. It might sound like common sense, but taking measures to talk to your children at a young age about how to treat others is key. Toddlers and preschoolers are especially vulnerable, because they are new to social interaction. If you hear your child continuously getting into verbal or physical spats with the same “friend,” it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Your child may be too young to understand how to deal with the behavior, and this is why education is even more important.

1. Teach the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would want to be treated.
2.  Encourage children not to tattle, but help them understand when to tell an adult that someone is treating them inappropriately.
3. Teach you child how to turn the other cheek. It’s sometimes tough to walk away, but often times ignoring the action of the bully can make it stop.
